Nayeem Khan lauds Pakistan PM’s Kashmir stance

Srinagar , May 13: Chairman Jammu Kashmir National Front Nayeem Ahmad Khan has lauded Pakistan Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani’s stance in a recent interview that the core UN-recognized Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan should be settled while taking into account aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“We are appreciative of the principled stand taken by Prime Minister Gilani on the Kashmir dispute,” Nayeem Ahmad Khan said.   Referring to Gilan’s interview to CNN-IBN, Nayeem Khan  said the Pakistani leader articulated three key points - Kashmir is the core dispute between the two countries; it should be resolved according to UN resolutions; and that its final resolution must include will of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and remarked that these represented parameters that were defined by the United Nations Security Council in its resolution that was adopted on April 21, 1948.

Nayeem Khan said no resolution of Kashmir is possible “without ascertaining the will of the people of all zones of the state of Jammu and Kashmir”.

Clearly, there are three parties to the dispute - India , Pakistan and the Kashmiri people, he stated, adding “it is a fact that the people of Kashmir are the primary party to the dispute.”

About the UN Security Council resolutions on the long-running dispute, Nayeem Khan said these could not be, morally or legally, overlooked.

Nayeem Khan thanked Pakistan and the people of Pakistan for their political, moral and diplomatic support to Kashmir cause.
